Talking Pattern & Colour with Anna Spiro

This summer, Anna Spiro takes us on a journey to Hawaii, to celebrate the cool, calm of the ocean with her Oahu textile collection.

Established from a life-long passion for textiles, pattern and colour, Anna Spiro Textiles is a collaboration between the acclaimed Interior Designer and her brother Sam Spiro who specialises in business operations. Made exclusively by hand in Australia, the Oahu textile collection is first illustrated and then screen-printed onto fine Belgian Linen.

The Oahu Blue Grotto colourway is complemented by The Water Monopoly Powder Blue basin and reflective tapware. The pretty, calm and sophisticated Powder Blue will undoubtedly bring serenity to any bathroom. Designed in the UK, mouth-watering colours and bold curves unite The Water Monopoly Rockwell Bathroom Collection.

You are renowned for your bright and cheerful interiors, what is your philosophy about providing this type of home for a client?

I feel great when I am surrounded by colour, it uplifts me.  I find that tones of taupe and beige make me feel very dull , down and uninspired.  I try to encourage my clients to embrace a happy, colour-filled home that is full of joy and love.

Anna Spiro Design partnered with Sydney designer Lucy Montgomery, to showcase her Le Sirenuse plaster mirror above the Rockwell basin. This mirror is named after the iconic hotel in Positano which overlooks the Mediterranean. Loom Towels from 51 Queen St Woollahra. Le Vante hand-woven pedestal and urn in collaboration with Watertiger and Mercer & Lewis.

In the Melbourne window, the Oahu colourway is complemented by The Water Monopoly Sherbet Yellow basin and reflective tapware. This is yellow reimagined. Rockwell’s Sherbet Yellow is effortlessly cool with a cheeky nod to 1970s nostalgia. Styling from Loom Towels from Kings Arcade, Armadale and Leif handcare from leifproducts.com

We use a lot of colourful patterned fabrics in our projects to help inject playfulness and excitement.  We also embrace the idea of using contradictory elements that when blended together can create an interesting, unique and eclectic look.  We also love to use paint colours and wallpaper to inject colour and pattern into rooms that lack amazing architectural detail.

I am of the belief that any home and any space can be made to feel and look amazing by being creative and bold in your approach.
