A fun interlude to our usual offerings and in support of the incredible art industry, we are featuring Swan Lake Bath Ballet by choreographer Corey Baker.
A reinvention of Swan Lake created using video chat, Baker captured 27 famous dancers around the world performing from their bathtubs at home. Made as part of the BBC’s Filmed in Lockdown series, the three-minute video works to bring a splash of joy into homes across the globe.
Baker coordinated the film from his bathroom, all whilst sitting upon his director’s chair (nee toilet seat). With Baker directing their movements via Zoom, ballerinas filmed themselves on iPhones, relying on innovative items such as books, children’s toys and even a toilet plunger to assist in camera angles. The hilarious result is a tongue-in-cheek production featuring a kaleidoscope of legs, all set to the classic “Swan Theme” playing in the background.
Utilising our new reliance on video technology, Baker has brought some silly back into the world. The delightful short film most importantly celebrates the undeniable power art has in lifting spirits and making people laugh.
